Replay A/V Conversions FAQ

If you're having trouble with Replay A/V converting from one format to another, the hints on this page will help.

Replay AV Version 8 Conversions (Using Replay Converter):

Replay AV 8 uses the included Replay Converter to convert audio and video files. It can convert to and from many more formats than previous versions. If you are having trouble with conversions in Replay AV 8, please see the Replay Converter support page for assistance.

Replay AV Version 7 Conversions:

First of all, see if you can manually perform a conversion with Replay A/V. Here's how to do it:

  1. Select a show with an unconverted file.
  2. Click the Burn/Copy button. The Burn/Copy dialog appears.
  3. Click on an unconverted file in the top section - this makes it appear in the bottom area.
  4. Click "Convert to MP3". The converter appears with a progress bar.

If the conversion worked, go to the Problems with Automatic Conversions section below. Otherwise, continue with these troubleshooting steps:

1. Update DirectX.

Some PCs require an updated DirectX to be installed. You can get the latest free from Microsoft here.

2. Reregister your codecs.

We've seen cases where other conversion programs will take over some of the codecs used to perform conversions. If you see a message like "can't instantiate convert library and regdb_e_classnotreg," then this is definitely the case. To fix this, reinstall Replay A/V from here. The installation process also registers codecs properly.

3. Make sure you have up-to-date copies of Windows Media Player and Real Player.

Converting from Windows Media and Real formats requires these program to be installed. We've heard from a few users who don't want to install Real Player - unfortunately, you need Real Player on your system in order to use the codecs to convert from Real to other formats.

Download Windows Media Player 10 from here.

Download Real Player from here.

Problems with Automatic Conversions in Replay A/V 7:

Replay A/V 7 builds a queue of conversion jobs, and performs them one at a time while recording. Since you were able to do a conversion, there may be something "Stuck" in the queue. You can clear the queue using RegEdit as follows:

  1. Click Start, Run, and enter "Regedit". The RegEdit program appears.
  2. Locate the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ReplayAV key.
  3. Delete the following entries below the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ReplayAV key:
    ConversionJobs
    ConversionJobsIndex
    ConversionJobsDescription
    ConversionJobsTarget
  4. This clears the conversions queue. You can safely exit RegEdit now.
