Install/Uninstall QuestionsWhat is the best way to re-install Replay Music or update Replay Music on my computer?
Can I install Replay Music on Windows Vista or Windows 7?Replay Music 3 is compatible with Windows Vista and Windows 7
My registration code doesn't work.First make sure you are entering the correct code. If you entered an invalid code into Replay Music, you can run the Clear Activation Code Utility to clear it from your computer's registry. Replay Music version 1 codes will not work in version 2 or later. You can purchase an upgrade from here. You can check which version of Replay Music you're using by clicking the "About" button in the upper-left corner of the main Replay Music window.
I've lost my activation code. How can I retrieve it?Please use our handy Activation Code Finder and all of your codes will be sent out to you. Recording QuestionsWhich input source in Replay Music's settings should I use when I am recording streaming music from an online source? When recording an online audio stream we recommend always using the "Audio Driver" option. This option is best for splitting online audio tracks accurately. All other input sources are good for recording from external sources, such as a tape deck, record player or microphone. Please note: Replay AV and the Freecorder Toolbar use the same specialized audio driver that Replay Music uses. Please make sure that these programs are closed when using Replay Music.
Replay Music is not detecting any sound. I'm not getting any audio in my recordings.Always make sure that you launch Repay Music PRIOR to opening the player or source that you will be recording from or Replay Music may not detect the audio. If you're having trouble, try these suggestions:
Replay Music can't record from the Yahoo Jukebox in Windows Vista. How come?Yahoo Jukebox uses a Windows Media DRM protection that prevents recording when using Windows Vista. I can't record from Napster in Windows Vista. What can I do?When using Replay Music to record from Napster in Vista, use the online browser version of Napster rather than the installed software version. Replay Music cannot record from the installed version of Napster but records great from the browser version. Splitting/Tagging Questions:Version 3.35 and older cannot connect to the Gracenote tagging service. When Gracenote was purchased by Sony, they stopped licensing song recognition technology to Applian. They were kind enough to allow us to keep using their servers for an extended period of time after discontinuing our agreement. In the meantime, we implemented a new version of Replay Music that uses alternative tagging technology. Simply download the latest version and Replay Music will once again tag tracks. Versions of Replay Music prior to 3.4 used the older Gracenote technology which is now expired in those older versions . We have sent several emails to our registered customers regarding this impending change. The update is free. Download the latest version of Replay Music from this page: http://www.applian.com/replay-music/demo.php The program fails to recognize any tracks.First verify that the automatic tagging option is selected in Replay Music's settings (output tab). Replay Music needs to hear the entire song in order to identify the track. So, please make sure that Replay Music can hear the entire song and that it is being played from a good clean source with ample silence broadcasted between tracks. Also, keep in mind that newly released albums may not yet be in the music database and therefore may tag as unrecognized. Replay Music uses a song recognition database to determine the artist and title of each song. Every effort is made to make this database as complete as possible, but sometimes a song isn't yet listed. For best recognition, make sure that the splitting settings are set to their defaults. In settings, go to the splitting tab and click the use defaults button. Occassionally a track will tag a track as unrecognized. However, you can give Replay Music another chance to tag unrecognized tracks. To query the music database and attempt to tag a track again:
Giving Firewall Permissions to Replay Music: Although most software firewall programs will automatically prompt you to give exceptions to Replay Music, some may require manual configuration. Make sure your firewall software is not blocking Replay Music. To troubleshoot, try temporarily disabling your firewall and see if that corrects the problem. The User Guide has a helpful section on properly configuring Windows Firewall and Zone Alarm. We've also seen this problem with some programs that filter Web traffic. Internet Download Manager is one, and the Automatic Upgrade for HP Printers is another. If you temporarily unload this type of program, you may see the issue fixed.
Tracks do not split and tag automatically when I record from RADIO stations. There needs to be discernible silence between the songs for the splitting technology to work properly, and therefore for the tagging to be accomplished. Radio stations that fade between tracks or have no silence will not split the tracks properly. We have included a manual Split Track button for this type of stream.
Only 10% or 20% of my tracks get tagged properly. What can I do to improve the tagging?First of all, make sure you are using the best possible quality to record from. Many services play streaming audio at 64 Kbps or lower. 128 kbps quality (CD Quality) is recommended. Rhapsody, Napster and Yahoo Unlimited all stream at 128 Kbps. Next, some PCs have sound "enhancements" which actually decrease the quality and recognition rate. You can see what "enhancements" your sound card has by doing these steps:
Finally, check your player program and make sure no extra sound enhancements are present. All music players are different.
Tracks aren't splitting with some music services (like Rhapsody, Yahoo, Pandora, etc)Splitting Settings: All music player programs are little different. You may need to experiment with Replay Music's splitting settings in order to obtain perfect splits between tracks. In most cases the default splitting settings of 1500 milliseconds and zero volume level cutoff will work fine. Sometimes a little tweaking is necessary. If your tracks are not splitting, try decreasing the milliseconds of silence and increasing the volume level cutoff until you find the best setting for the music service you are recording from.
Disable equalizers, sound enhancements and cross-faders: Some player programs contain settings that modify the sound or use cross fading between tracks. Disable these features as they may interfere with Replay Music's ability to automatically split and tag tracks. For Rhapsody: Make sure to turn off Rhapsody's equalizer:
The equalizer interferes with Replay Music's ability to recognize tracks. For Yahoo Jukebox: If using Replay Music with Yahoo Jukebox please be sure to disable the "cross fade" option in Yahoo's settings. In the Yahoo Music Jukebox, click on EDIT, then PREFERENCES. In the GENERAL section disable the "cross fade" option. Also, Replay Music will tag more accurately if you record from a streaming playlist in Yahoo Unlimited rather than from downloaded files. This will ensure the smart track splitting works for this service. You can also adjust Replay Music's splitting options. In most cases the default setting of 1500 milliseconds of silence and a Volume Level Cut-Off of zero will work. If you have trouble, try decreasing the minimum to 1000 or so. All music player programs are a little different so some experimentation may be necessary. Tracks aren't splitting when I record my purchased music from iTunes. What can I do?iTunes does not insert enough silence between tracks. However, we have included a file named silence.mp3. You'll find this file in your Replay Music 3 directory (usually C:\Program Files\Replay Music 3\). The silence.mp3 file is just a few seconds of silence. Place it between tracks in your iTunes playlist and tracks will split perfectly. Most of my songs are tagged correctly, but not all. Why?Replay Music uses a song recognition database to determine the artist and title of each song. Every effort is made to make this database as complete as possible, but sometimes a song isn't yet listed. When you correct tracks in Replay Music, your track and artist names are sent to the database administrator for review and insertion into the database.
Error Messages:Replay Music says it cannot detect my internet connection. This message means that Replay Music is unable to connect to the Internet, which it needs to do to be able to tag songs. Either Replay Music is being blocked by your firewall software, or you are using a proxy server. Try these steps:
I get the message "Error creating MP3 output file. There may be a sharing violation or output path no longer exists."This message means that Replay Music is having trouble creating an MP3 file. Make sure that the folder or directory that you are recording the track to, still exists. Open settings in Replay Music and check the path you've selected to hold your recorded files. Use the browse button to re-create the path just to make sure it is correct. Also make sure you don't have the same MP3 file already open that you are trying to record to. I can't open Replay Music. It used to work, but now it crashes. This can happen if you've installed a new Sound Card or made other audio related changes on your computer. The best course of action is to run the Clear Settings utility to re-set all of Replay Music's settings. This utility will also clear your activation code from the registry, so you will need to re-enter your code. You'll find a file named ClearReplayMusicSettings.exe in your Replay Music 3 directory (usually C:\Program Files\Replay Music 3\). Run this utility to clear all Replay Music settings. |
