Privacy Policy - TabCapture

This policy describes how the TabCapture browser extension handles information when you use it. TabCapture is designed to record the contents of a browser tab you choose and to help you save or use those recordings on your own device.

Who this applies to

This page applies to the TabCapture extension published for Google Chrome (and similar Chromium-based browsers where the same package is installed). Replace the bracketed fields at the bottom of this page with your organization’s legal name and contact details before you host this document on your website for the Chrome Web Store listing.

What the extension can access

• Tab content you record. When you start a recording, the extension may capture video and/or audio from the tab you are recording (and only in line with how you use the controls). That content is processed to produce a recording you can preview, save, or send to linked software.
• Local settings. The extension may store preferences and similar data using the browser’s storage (for example, chosen options or session-related settings) so the extension works the way you configured it.
• Notifications. If enabled in the product, the extension may show notifications about recording status (for example, when recording starts or stops).

Where your recordings go

Recordings are handled on your computer in the normal course of using the extension. You may save exported video files to your device using the browser’s download behavior. The extension does not need to upload your recordings to our servers for basic tab recording and export to work.

Optional: Replay Video Capture on your PC

If you use features that connect TabCapture to Replay Video Capture (or related tools), the extension may communicate with software running locally on your machine, for example:

• A WebSocket connection to 127.0.0.1 (your computer only) so the desktop app can receive or coordinate capture data, when you use that workflow.
• Native messaging, so the browser can talk to a small helper registered on your system to open or coordinate the desktop app, when you choose that option and the helper is installed.

Those paths stay on your device and your local network loopback; they are not triggered for remote Internet servers by the extension for that purpose.

Data we collect on our servers

Operating the TabCapture extension and saving files locally does not require us to receive your tab recordings or the sites you visit. We do not use the extension to sell your recordings or to run advertising analytics inside the extension as shipped in this product description.

If you contact support by email or through a form on a website, we may receive whatever information you send us there under normal business email practices.

Retention

Exported recordings and temporary working data remain under your control on your device unless you delete them or move them elsewhere. Browser storage used for settings persists until you clear extension data or uninstall the extension, according to your browser’s rules.

Security

You should treat exported recordings like any sensitive file on your computer. Use device protections and sharing practices appropriate for your organization.

Children

TabCapture is not directed at children. If you are a parent or guardian and believe a child has used the extension in a way that concerns you, contact us using the details below.

Changes to this policy

We may update this page when the product or legal requirements change. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the extension after an update means the updated policy applies.
